Introduction

Large FMCG plant in Meyerton seeks suitably qualified and experienced individual to join their management team.  Individual will report to the Works Manager, have 10 direct reports and will be responsible for planning, organising, directing and co-ordinating strategies, interventions and programs aimed at managing the materials (commodities) value chain from inception of raw material, chemicals, packaging and engineering spares through to delivery of finished goods.

To maximise all opportunities within the Food sector in respect of volume and price (revenue and contribution).  The foundation of this would be delivery on a promise in terms of forecasted volumes, new business to make up any shortfall and effective people management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial

  • Achieves results through others with optimal use of resources

  • Cost containment: ensure that expenditure is justifiable, alternatives to ensure cost saving considered
  • Budgeted volumes, F1, F2 and F3 volumes adjusted with variance explanations.  The original volumes will be the main measure with new business to supplement.
  • Gives input into budgeting, monitors cash flow and reporting

People

  • Responsible for the performance management of team members and providing appropriate feedback relating to department goals and team members.
  • Responsible for developing, coaching and mentoring team
  • Prepares plans, organizes, leads and directs the plant materials management team to provide solutions towards achieving the materials management objectives of the organization.

Business Processes

  • Develops and ensures implementation of the plant’s materials management strategies aligned to commercial business objectives and goals
  • Develops plans, procedures, schedules and interventions aimed at optimising all materials management resources, technologies, sub-contractors, capital and logistical systems.
  • Leads the development and implementation of best practice & quality programmes within materials management systems and procedures.
  • Mapping and drives activities/workflow processes to ensure value add in department.
  • Ensure adequate availability of tools, resources (incl. raw materials) and training to the team

Customers (internal & external)

  • Understand customer needs and supplier contributions to drive operational results
  • Listen to, accurately captures and actions customers’ expectations, ideas and concerns
  • Builds effective working relationship with key stakeholders

  • Ensures team focus on safety, health, environment and community activities and measures

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

A three-year Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics / Supply Chain Management or a relevant field

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of FMCG industry
  • Knowledge and ability to manage costs, budgets, and financial data
  • Understanding of all relevant legislation

Experience
